Ever heard a song & when you listen to it, it’s like you’ve heard it a million times before, but you know you never have, at least you don’t think you have – but somehow tonight was the first time you heard it.
It’s like when you’ve passed a beautiful painting a 100 times, when you pass by it, ever so often. This painting you’ve glanced over, yet you never truly looked at. Then one day, someone had you stop right in your tracks, to look. And so you did. On the first look, you crossed your arms and frowned in annoyance, as you contemplated if this yes-pretty-but-so-is-every-other picture could truly be something worth stopping for.
Then, the lights turned on, your glazed vision suddenly marked with a new clarity, and you caught a reflection of the Artist, who had hidden an image of himself into this particular painting.
And, oh, this artist you knew, you adored, you loved even; and as for his work, you knew that everything he created was priceless, even if it looked most ordinary. Suddenly, you realised that what you now saw among all the other treasures, was a treasure unlike the others.
From that day on, it seemed you could never unsee the painting ever again, even if you tried. And while you had no obvious desire to put a bid on this painting, even as you now noticed the others scurrying about to claim it as well, this newly acquired clarity seemed to have awakened in you the desire to partner with the artist, to know and make known the image of the artist that this particular painting held.
A resolve built up in you, and you knew that perhaps it was time you put a bid on a painting; on this one painting. And so, you did, even though you weren’t even sure if you did it right. You did it anyway, because the artist was someone who you could trust.
You knew that if this painting ended up being yours, as scary and unfamiliar the territory was for you, as long as you focused on finding the artist in the painting, this opportunity would be one that you would steward well.
And you did.
Epilogue: Little did you know that all along, the artist had envisioned it all. The gallery, the hallway, the path, the painting, every single detail was orchestrated well before you could even think of any and all of it. For this painting was created by the artist for you to treasure, custom-made to suit you. Further more, unbeknownst to you, you too were a work of art created from a cut of the same canvas used for the painting, and the Artist has hidden himself in you too.
