Days, months, years? Words in my head when I think of our Lord’s second coming. Day by day the world is just going so wrong. Seems the world counting down to that day when God decides that it is the Time.
I’m writing today about the two things that rule our lives these days for the most and how it can take our focus off the Cross. The jobs we do for most of the day and then what we spend our time on once off work – entertainment.
Occupation – These days people seem to spend all of their life making money for a good life which ironically takes up most of the time in their life. “Workaholic” is a term we can use for many these days. Have we forgotten that the jobs etc. are aimed to just get you to lead a life with the basic comforts. Anything beyond that is well and good but it would be a tragedy to earn millions and have not a bit of happiness in life to enjoy it really. Example all the celebrities, I’m sure that there’e not one of them that happy – whether it’s being over ambitious or falling to the lure of money, lust, power, fame etc. They get married umpteen times, get into extra marital affairs, have babies in and out of their marriage, get addicted to drugs/alcohol and so much more. All while in the game to make more money.
Entertainment – Now entertainment is such a wide assortment so let me touch on the ones I feel are the major negative impact on people.
1. Music – The biggest names we hear in the industry right now are beyonce, lady gaga, britney spears,rihanna, black eyed peas, justin bieber, drake, nicki minaj etc. One look at most of their videos and we’re flooded with inane sexual dance moves, lyrics that we’d never want our kids listening to, songs that tell us to dance whatever happens? and nowadays songs that plain disrespect christianity and the values we’d like our children to retain. Beyonce’s songs tell us that men cheat and ignore us (if I were a boy), they don’t want to marry us (single ladies),they dump us but we can get a new one (irreplacable), girls can build a nation? (girls run the world). Lady gaga tells us that we are born this way so basically whatever is wrong with you, be a coward, don’t change and then sing ‘i’m born this way’; she sings about being a holy fool? And being in love with Judas all while in the real world she calls herself a devout catholic. Britney spears recent song ‘i wanna go’ has vulgar scenes where children even a baby ogles at her, seems to be symbolic of how she and her fellow musicians under Satan’s influence are corrupting the innocence of children. All their videos seem to have hidden agendas, sometimes blatant satanic influences, vulgar costumes and dance moves – songs talk about something and videos completely different. Let’s ignore for a moment the reverse messages in most of the songs. These people are crowned role models for kids? Really?!!!!!
2. Media (Adults) – So what is it that adults these days are hooked to all around the world? You got it – reality shows. Anything and everything that can be made a reality show is now shown. Then celebrities who truly have nothing better to do, come up with more of their life reality shows where we waste like an hour of our day seeing them run around in limousines, shop for clothes, wear pjs and talk about nonsense all the while promoting some new brand/movie etc. they’re endorsing or starring in. We get so engrossed in the “reality” of others that we spend most of our time watching it. People, shouldn’t we be living the reality of our own lives – I personally feel my life has more than enough drama, I don’t need to see it on tv too.. Gosh!!
And how about the books? The most popular books these days are either thrillers with violence, government agendas, wars, witchcraft, supernatural, romance etc. How does it help us? Lord only knows.
Then what about computer games/mobile games – popular games seem to be games where you throw birds at buildings??!!!, kill, shoot at, beat up people in violence based games. Recently a small look at some of the games coming out was surprised at how blatantly Anti-Christ like they are.
3. Media (Kids) – Cartoons/Teenager shows – everything exposes kids to bad language, bad attitudes, disrespect to elders, premarital sex and what not. Couple of years back I remember wondering why my younger cousins always seemed to either ignore or yell at elders and were thinking of boys at a way too young age. Then I watched likes of “Hannah Montana” and found the obnoxious behavior oh-too-familiar. Come to how the actresses who become idols for these kids eventually shed their kid looks and turn to dress vulgar and fall to bad habits like alcohol, drug abuse etc. Coincidence? I think not – Satan is using the industry with full force to make the kids lose their innocence. The one habit that all kids have in common is the need to fit in which means inevitably following blindly what fellow kids seem to show as cool. Studying in India, so haven’t faced it but apparently, people consider being a virgin as something weird. That in itself is a way how Satan has overcome the western world’s mindset for the most.
So these are just a look at the entertainment industry aspect of it. Perhaps another day with another angle on the same topic of how satan is working in the world.
For now, I log off with the thoughts about how satan and his followers is working so hard to corrupt the world, How are we.. How am I, working to purify the minds and hearts that I know? What am I doing to bring them to Christ.
